AI webinars in Tamil Nadu
Will AI make teachers redundant? Can AI make better teachers? What is AI? Do we need to understand AI? Can it make teaching and learning easier?
These are some of the questions that teachers across the world are grappling with. When we decided to hold a series of webinars on “Harnessing AI for Effective Teaching and Learning”, the level of engagement was much higher than we anticipated. Teachers demonstrated a growth mindset and were keen to learn, curious to understand AI and use AI to teach better!
This webinar series is conducted for teachers across Tamil Nadu in Tamil and provides a space for teachers to understand all things AI including ChatGPT.
Adapting and using AI for teaching, strengthening pedagogy and student experiences is a tall order and requires behaviour change on the part of teachers and educational leaders. They need to view AI not as a threat but as a tool to enhance their effectiveness as teachers and increase student engagement.
In today’s webinar, we were joined by more than 130 educators from schools spanning 15 districts of Tamil Nadu. The teachers exhibited a genuine curiosity about the tools and asked insightful questions aimed at enhancing their classroom experiences. Some questions included:
- How can I generate multiple-choice questions using AI tools?
- What prompts should I provide to obtain content tailored to specific grade levels?
- Can ChatGPT generate complex mathematical formulas?
- Why do we encounter challenges in obtaining high-quality Tamil content from ChatGPT?
- Are there AI tools available that can generate PowerPoint presentations based on given content?

A big gap that emerged from the webinar is the availability of Indian language content and the effectiveness of AI tools in showing accurate results in Tamil. Irrespective of this challenge, teachers are keen to adopt technology to enhance their teaching and learning. What is essential is to provide platforms where they can learn in a safe and non-threatening manner, ask questions, bring practical challenges and be supported to solve them.
