Centre for Intrinsic Motivation

Tech Transformation

Chatbot

The WhatsApp Chatbot-Based Mentoring Program was introduced in 130 Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) middle schools (Grades 6-8) to foster intrinsic motivation, enhance classroom skills, and encourage peer learning. The program engaged participants through an interactive WhatsApp chatbot that delivered content and periodic nudges. Designed in 5-week cycles, the intervention included strategy introduction, implementation nudges, support, self-reflection, and data-based reflection with officials.

The content focused on needs expressed by teachers and officials, covering topics such as classroom management, questioning techniques, scaffolding, voice modulation, and self-reflection. The pilot ran from December 2023 to March 2024, with 278 registrants (204 teachers and 74 headmasters).

Behaviour Change for Technology Adoption

CIM aims to enhance technology integration across 35 schools in Bangalore and 50 schools in Delhi. Beginning with a baseline study, the program assessed the current use of technology and schools’ readiness for digital adoption. Head Masters participated in an online orientation, introducing the program’s objectives. Each school will have a designated Change Champion, trained to lead technology adoption efforts, with workshops to equip them with essential skills.

The initiative fosters collaboration through regular teacher network meetings and bi-monthly calls for reflection and feedback. Activities like best practice contests and an end-line study help assess progress and celebrate achievements, driving impactful tech transformation in schools.
